Vegan products have become more than just foodstuffs. Clothing has embraced vegan fabrics that are either synthetic or polyester. Dr. Kourosh Maddahi founded the company after 28 years of practicing general dentistry before starting the company. In 2012, he set out to create a small batch of all-natural mouthwash for a few patients reacting badly to traditional dental care products. He noticed that peroxides and alcohol didn’t kill 99.9% of germs, as the old marketing trick suggests.
Lumineux’s products are designed to treat four of the most common dental conditions: sensitivity, dry mouth, gum disease, and stained teeth.
Using natural ingredients like Dead Sea salt, coconut oil, and aloe vera was not a common practice. Still, Maddahi said they work just as well as in regular toothpaste and mouthwash chemicals.
The company website says Lumineux whitening strips, toothpaste, and mouthwash have been clinically studied by more than 60 independent and peer-reviewed researchers. The results have been quite good, with patients showing signs of better oral health and just as strong as the leading traditional brand.

In several blog posts, the company discusses the benefits of Dead Sea Salt, coconut oil, essential oils, and aloe vera, saying they leave the mouth feeling clean without killing all the good bacteria. According to the NIH, there are more than 700 kinds of bacteria exist in our oral microbiome.

The company has expressed interest in eliminating plastic packaging, but it is hard to switch over for a few reasons. A blog post explained that they don’t want to use glass since there is a risk of the bottle breaking in transit or the bathroom. The ingredients in the mouthwash also won’t hold the solutions very well.
However, Lumineux is committed to using BPA-free plastic and has reduced its shipping boxes by 20%.
